Vintage, Modern & Modded amps.

Seekers of truth & purveryors of tone

Truth & Tone is a guitar amplifier workshop selling fully serviced, modern & vintage used amps.

T&T gives you the reassurance of buyer friendly support whilst keeping prices in-line with buying from an online marketplace.

We keep our costs low by sourcing amps from specialist guitar auctions & private sales & keeping all our work in-house.

All our amps are checked & serviced, repaired (if needed), tweaked, and tuned.

We don’t just bring them up-to-scratch, but better. Components are upgraded & circuits modified, improving both sound and reliability, so you get the best amp possible.

We then refurbish the amp, whether that’s a bit of a spit & polish, or going the whole hog with a complete re-style.

Vintage Amps (pre-90’s)

Our vintage stock consists of the not-so-known UK brands of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, such as Carlsbro, Sound City, Simms-Watts & Arbiter, with a few from the better known makes such as Laney & Selmer.

Compared to the cost of the more mainstream vintage brands such as Marshall, Vox & Orange, we belive that these amps offer outstanding value for equally as great tone.

The quality of the components and build is often the same (or better), & once cleaned up & properly refurbished are a fantastic way to own a vintage valve amplifier.

Common to most amps of this era are chunky transformers, mustard caps, hand wiring & simple but effective design.

We aim to keep as much as possible of the original amp, only replacing parts when we have to, and where we can, with NOS or vintage ‘reissue’ components.

You can see our current stock in our Vintage amps section, and can read more on the history of the brands we source here.

Modern Amps (90’s and on)

All the amps that we sell go through the same process, Rebuild, Revoice & Refurbish, which raises the quality, sound & feel to the level of amps from much higher price points, and gives a guarentee of reliabilty.

Some amps we modify further, giving you the option of having your own custom amp, both in tone, features & look.

We’re as transparent as possible about what we’ve done, why we did it, what we used & how much it cost. We’re also happy to provide component lists, schemas & spice models for all of our work.

We are always interested in trying something new, so please reach out if you have a project in mind or something specific that you are looking for.

You can view the products and services we offer, or head over to our Modern Amps section to see our current stock.

The Modern amps that we stock & work on are usually the affordable amps from the main brands of Fender, Marshall & Vox with a few Laneys thrown in for good measure.
